My Mission
I am proud to represent clients in whatever family law issue they may be facing, whether it be a divorce, a paternity case, a custody or parenting time dispute, a child or spousal support issue, or enforcement or modification of a previous court order. I limit my practice exclusively to family law because family law cases are important to the people involved in a way that no other kind of cases are. It is very rewarding to represent clients who are dealing with issues that really matter - not just to them, but to those who depend on them.
I provide my clients with the information and support they need to make informed, rational decisions about their goals and strategies for resolving whatever issues they face. This goal-oriented approach helps ensure that my clients' cases are resolved as quickly and cost-effectively as they can be. Whenever possible, my clients and I first attempt to reach their goals through cooperation with the other side. If those efforts are not successful, we use the tools provided by the court system to attain my clients' goals with the least possible emotional wear-and-tear along the way. Either way, the focus remains the same: helping my clients through a difficult time in their lives and achieving the best possible resolution.
ABOUT ME
I have been a licensed attorney and member of the State Bar of Michigan since 2006. My practice focuses solely on divorce, custody, and parenting time proceedings. I work both in litigation and Collaborative Law Practice, and I was the longest tenured member of the Board of the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan, the State body for Collaborative Practice, before leaving due to term limits in 2024. I am proud to have been honored with the Michigan Super Lawyer award every year since 2019. This award is voted on by other lawyers and is extended to less than 5% of Michigan attorneys. I am also a four-time recipient of the Michigan Super Lawyer Rising Stars award.
Prior to starting my own firm, I worked as an Associate Attorney at Carlo J. Martina, P.C. in Plymouth, Michigan and as a Staff Attorney at Lakeshore Legal Aid. At Lakeshore Legal Aid, I was the sole family law attorney in Macomb County providing full-time, free representation to low-income members of the community, the great majority of whom were victims of domestic violence. In this position, I developed experience in high-conflict family law cases and built on my significant prior litigation experience acquired representing clients in complex commercial and medical malpractice cases.
I graduated in the top 10% of my class at Wayne State University Law School, where I worked at the Free Legal Aid Clinic representing impoverished Wayne County residents in family law cases. While at Wayne State, I was selected to the nationally-ranked Moot Court team. I participated in several national tournaments, including the National Championship Competition, where my team placed in the top 18 teams in the U.S. Prior to attending law school, I majored in English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where I graduated with Distinction.
I grew up in Huntington Woods, Michigan, where I returned with my wife, Rachel, in 2012 to raise our two daughters. We enjoy visiting the Detroit Zoo, Greenfield Village, and all the other great resources we have in our community.
